All About Me Activity- Some time within the first month of school, try having students engage in a week-long project where they work with their family to create an art piece that represents them, their family, and culture/religion. According to Block, 2017, this is one way to give students the opportunity to share multiple parts of their lives! I always begin the week by showing students my art piece and explaining more about myself, my family, and background. I am always sure to include a picture of myself at their age/grade so students know that I was once a student too! I share stories of my childhood, and school experiences I had with both teachers and classmates. The students seem to trust and understand me more. Students enjoy sharing about themselves and their cultures. I also encourage classmates to ask questions so that they can understand each other better.
